AFTER FATAL ROAD CRASH | Palawan to rehab 'accident-prone road'

AFTER FATAL ROAD CRASH at palawanPUERTO PRINCESA CITY — The provincial board of Palawan has approved a measure that seeks to immediately inspect and rehabilitate the Puerto Princesa City South National Highway, particularly kilometers 34-35.

This, after the vehicular crash that killed seven people in a head-on collision between a Roro Bus and a sports utility vehicle. One of those killed was the daughter of former Apec party-list representative Ponciano Payuyo and current provincial administrator Atty. Augustine Rocamora.

At its regular session Tuesday, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan presided by Vice Governor Dennis Socrates approved Resolution No. 89-2013 penned by board member Marivic Roxas to instantly check and rehabilitate that portion of the south national highway.

She said the bad condition of that road section is also one of the reasons why many crashes happen there. She said the 3rd Palawan Engineering District-Department of Public Works and Highways is being requested to do this.

Roxas said the road section is now considered “accident-prone area” due to the number of accidents that happened there recently.

Board members Albert Rama and Bon Ponce de Leon agreed with Roxas.

“This should be done immediately, and also, there is a need to inspect the design of the road because there seems to be something wrong with it,” Rama said.

To understand the condition of the road, the SP agreed to invite the 3rd Palawan Engineering District of the DPWH to a Question Hour next Tuesday, including the Roro Bus management and other concerned stakeholders and agencies.

Roxas said this should be done as soon as possible so that vehicular crashes, which are considered the fourth cause of death among Filipinos, can be avoided.
