New PH–US military exercise to start Wednesday

The Philippine Army will engage the United States Special Operations Forces in their annual, one-month joint and combined training exercise in Palawan starting Wednesday, November 16.

Col. Benjamin Hao, Army spokesman, said the Philippines–United States Balance Piston 16-4 training exercise focuses on enhancing the war fighting capabilities and interoperability of the Philippine Army’s Special Operations Command (SOCOM) and the U.S. Special Operations Forces.

Hao said there will no longer be live firing exercises to be “in line with the guidance from budget headquarters,” but there will still be marksmanship skills.

The training by personnel from the U.S. Special Forces and about 30 to 40 Army personnel from the SOCOM will be held at a Maritime Training Facility in Puerto Princesa, Palawan and at a military camp based in Rizal, Palawan from November 16 to December 14.
