DENR to restore mercury-tainted Palawan lake


PUERTO PRINCESA – The government has started the restoration of a mercury-contaminated lake in Palawan that was previously used by a mining company.

MARINA Palawan implements phase out of wooden-hulled passenger vessels


The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) started Wednesday the implementation of its circular that phases out all wooden-hulled vessels that transport passengers from port-to-port in Puerto Princesa city and the whole Palawan.

Engineer Nelson Sobrevega, head of MARINA in Palawan, said a directive has now been passed down, ordering them to instigate Circular No. 2016-2 which seeks the eventual discontinuation of operation of passenger wooden-hulled vessels, particularly in all ports in Coron and El Nido in the northern part of the province. Agriculture dep’t scales back 2016 output growth target due to late-year typhoons Nina, Lawin, Karen


“I have to admit we would have to make some adjustments to our projection,” Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel F. Piñol told reporters on Tuesday, noting that the last quarter of 2016 may show a decline of 2% in output.
