SINGAPORE: Five charities received S$23,962 each in donations on Sunday (Jul 19), thanks to a charity event by Singapore’s water recycling plant, Hyflux.
Around 1,000 staff and their families, as well as charity beneficiaries were at the Hyflux SG50 Family Day held at the Port of Lost Wonder at Palawan Beach on Sentosa.
The charity beneficiaries are from Boys’ Town Singapore, Chen Su Lan Methodist Children’s Home, Lions Befrienders, Society of the Father and Son, and Yong-en Care Centre.
Themed “From Kampong to Metropolis”, carnival-goers tried their hand at nostalgic games and were treated to local delicacies.
S$119,810 was raised from ticket sales, as well as donations from Hyflux and its corporate partners. The money was distributed equally to the five charities.
Minister for Social and Family Development Tan Chuan-Jin, who graced the event, urged the public to contribute in more ways than just money, such as through volunteering.
“It’s not just about money,” said Mr Tan. “It’s not just about iconic projects, but it’s about time. It’s about us committing ourselves and our lives in the lives of others.”
