At least eight seamen were rescued from a distressed motor launch off Bataraza town in Palawan last Wednesday, the Philippine Coast Guard reported Sunday.
It said the motor launch “Azriel” got into trouble after its rudder was detached from its shaft while it was crossing the Rio Tuba area in Palawan.
In its report, the PCG said the vessel was carrying 200 bags of cement, 100 steel bars, a motorcycle and other cargo during the incident.
From Puerto Princesa City, the boat headed for Balabac Island when its rudder broke off.
Upon learning of the incident, the PCG sent a rescue team to the affected vessel.
The boat with its eight crew members was towed to Sitio Marabahay Pier in Barangay Rio Tuba in Bataraza, Palawan.
